Elliot is a recently graduated assistant ecologist with one season of professional consultancy experience. He is practiced in a range of protected species surveys, with a focus on bat emergence and foraging and commuting activity, as well as reptile artificial refuge surveys, and translocation. Elliot assists with the drafting of Protected Species Reports, as well as the analysis of ecological survey data. He has performed ECoW on several projects of various scales, including destructive searches for reptiles, and has experienced in the production of maps and analysis using ArcGIS.

Elliot has recently completed a Master’s degree in Sustainable Development from the University of Surrey, accredited by the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (ISEP, formerly IEMA). Here he gained knowledge and understanding into the environmental impact assessments, ecology, environmental economics and environmental law.  He is also a qualifying member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM), and a member of the British Ecological Society.

Prior to joining Urban Edge Environmental Consulting, Elliot completed a placement with Surrey Wildlife Trusts’ research and monitoring team. He partnered with the trust to write his master’s thesis on applying ecosystem toolkits to calculate carbon stored in hedgerow habitats for natural capital solutions. Through this work, Elliot gained an understanding around various ecosystem toolkits and biodiversity metrics such as the Biodiversity Net Gain metric and the Woodland Carbon Code. This gave insight into how nature based solutions and net gain projects are used for biodiversity and conservation.

For fun, Elliot enjoys spending time outdoors, travelling to new places, riding his bike and a good cup of coffee.
