Preliminary Ecological Appraisal & Reptile Survey – Proposed Retail Site in Bedfordshire

Client: Private Developer

Working on behalf of a private developer in 2012, we completed a Preliminary Ecological Appraisal and Reptile Survey for a c.3.1ha proposed retail development site. The initial brief was to carry out an Extended Phase 1 Habitat Survey to inform the ecological appraisal. Due to the nature and variety of habitats present, the landform and presence of potential basking spots, a reptile survey was recommended, designed and implemented. The reptile survey comprised seven site visits in suitable weather conditions to search for reptiles along targeted transects and at artificial and pre-existing refuges.  No reptiles were recorded and the scheme was successfully consented planning permission.
